Aab Aalborg v Manchester United UCL preview

Manchester United are traveling to Denmark to face AaB Aalborg, where they hope to lead Group E with a convincing first win over the Champions League first timers. Aalborg could quit their first European battle with a goalless draw against Glasgow Celtic in Scotland and Aalborg’s Scottish manager Bruce Rioch hope to record another good result against the Champions League holder.

Although the Danish side seems hidden for Sir Alex Ferguson, United are ready for this away test in Match day 2. Fergie’s boys recorded their first win against Bolton last Saturday and they are looking to continue their good form against the Danish champion.

Gary Neville and Owen Hargreaves have been left out of the squad. Neville has just returned to the starting line-up after being slide-lined for 18 months while Hargreaves still suffering from his knee injury which has limited his appearances since his move from Bayern Munich last summer. The Frenchman has expressed his fear over the threatening effect of United in the long run losing the most successful manager in their bright history.

The unpopular arrival of the Glazer family saddled the club with around £600 million of debt and has seen United’s ticket prices, previously some of the most competitively priced in the Premier League, rise year-on-year.

However the Glazers has allowed Ferguson to build another championship winning squad, Cantona believes that it is only Fergie’s experienced hand that is keeping Man United challenging in domestic and European competition. Read the full story

Fergie blasts dirty Pogatetz

Sir Alex Ferguson launched a contemptuous attack on Emanuel Pogatetz after the Middlesbrough captain of his dirty tackle on Brazilian youngster Rodrigo Possebon. The 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder was taken to hospital. It was expected the Possebon has broken his leg, but United have confirmed that he has not broken his leg.

“It looked a really bad one. For the kid to make his first team debut and get an injury like that it was pretty horrendous,” said Fergie.

“For 10 minutes everyone was numb about it. The thing about these challenges it is always the case that the opponent claims his innocence.

“One of their bench is out screaming that it wasn’t a sending off and there was nothing wrong with the player.

“But at least they apologised. Gareth Southgate understood the gravity of it. He was very, very apologetic. But it was a terrible tackle.

“I have seen a video of it and you don’t want to see that again. We just hope it is not really, really serious, but it looks bad.”

Was the Ref decision correct?
