Manchester United 2 Aston Villa 1 Highlights

Rooney scored  the winning goal
Manchester United retained the English League Cup beating Aston Villa 2 to 1 at Wembley.Villa had break the deadloack with a penalty from James Milner following a foul by Nemanja Vidic in the 5th minute, but Michael Owen (13th) and on form Wayne Rooney (74) responded with two goals to give Man United the first trophy of the season. Another Wembley Cup Final

Manchester United will be attempting to win the Football League Cup for the fourth time when they take on Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

That trophy has been known as the Carling Cup since the 2002/03 season, one of a number of names it has been known by since it came into being in 1960/61 so here’s a question to test the memory of all you history buffs. What was it called when captain Steve Bruce lifted the cup for the first time for United in 1991/92?

Knock Liverpool Off Their F***ing Perch

Another trip to Wembley, another Cup Final and another trophy up for grabs. Between the Community Shield, Carling Cup and the FA Cup Semi final last season, this will be the sixth visit to Wembley Stadium for Manchester United fans in the last three seasons!

Mutterings of  “Ahh, it’s only the Carling Cup” can well be understood, but there was something refreshingly unexpected about this much maligned trophy this season.

The Berbatov Dilemma

A casual swing of his boot to release Antonio Valencia, a good cross to Wayne Rooney and the West Ham defence was breached. That incisive move was repeated early in the second half with what appeared to be ridiculous ease. A cleverly disguised pass inside a defender, Valencia puts it on the head of Rooney and to all intents and purposes the three points were in the bag!

While the roles of Valencia and Rooney must not be underestimated, the key man in the instigation of these moves was.…Dimitar Berbatov! Yes, the same Berba who has managed to divide the Old Trafford faithful ever since his big money move from Tottenham at the start of last season.

Manchester United 3 West Ham 0 Highlights

Manchester united have defeated West Ham United Old Trafford and reduced the points different with Chelsea to one point.  This was a bounce back after losing to Everton last week. Goals were scored by Wayne Rooney, who scored twice, and Michael Owen. Read the full story
