Another Player of the Year Award for Rooney

The honours keep rolling in for Manchester United and England super striker Wayne Rooney. Just one week after being named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year, he has secured an awards double when he was voted the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. He finished ahead of Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and former United team mate Carlos Tevez after collecting a staggering 81% of the vote.

Like most Manchester United fans there were no tears shed last night when former United striker Diego Forlan slammed the ball home for Athletico Madrid right in front of  The Kop to send Liverpool crashing out of Europe. After all, those same Merseyside fans were ecstatic to see Bayern Munich go through to the Champions League semi final by eliminating United on the same away goals rule.

Ferguson in hunt for classy Spurs midfielder

Surprise reports have emerged today that Manchester United have made Tottenham Hotspurs midfield maestro Luka Modric their leading summer transfer target.
