Seven on the radar…and more transfer gossip

Transfer rumours are a dime a dozen. Very few have genuine substance so they should always be taken with a huge amount of cynicism. Yet they cannot be completely ignored in case there’s the slightest grain of truth in them. Some media outlets are obviously more reliable than others so Truly Reds is prepared to report the gossip and give a rating of 1 to 5 as to how believable it’s likely be. A rating of 1 can almost certainly be dismissed out of hand while a 5 may give the story some merit and warrant a small wager. Have a look at the latest sports news and transfers being reported but be warned – only believe what you want.

Everton’s Jack Rodwell has been on Sir Alex Ferguson’s wanted list for 12 months and the Independent reports that he’s a major target as Fergie seeks to reinvigorate his midfield. United’s cash balance is approaching £150m and the club should have £60m to spend as it sees fit. Chief executive David Gill has signalled that this will be a “busier than normal” summer. The 20 year old Rodwell may not make an immediate impact but for the sake of the future, he’s the one that I want to see at Old Trafford more than any other. It may be wishful thinking but this possible move is Rated – 3

Sir Alex is also readying a bid for Blackpool play maker Charlie Adam as he looks to replace Paul Scholes. The manager is known to be an keen admirer and is confident he can beat the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham to sign the Scottish midfielder. Ferguson is on the look out for a goalscoring midfielder and has been linked with a number of potential signings including Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder who has stated his desire to stay at the San Siro.  United have a number of central midfield options but the likes of Anderson, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Darron Gibson fail to weigh in with many goals whereas Adam has shown over the past two seasons that he can expertly link midfield to attack. If Sir Alex REALLY wants him, this has to be Rated – 3

Classy Benfica left back Fabio Coentrao has revealed he’s aware of Manchester United’s interest in his services. The Portuguese international has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe with Liverpool also thought to be keen on bringing the player to the Premier League. The Correio da Manha reports that the 23 year old has now spoken out over the interest in his services. Benfica value the player at £26 million, a figure that both United and Real Madrid are reportedly considering, although the player has hinted that he’s leaning towards a La Liga switch despite ‘special’ interest from Old Trafford Rated – 2

Both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are plotting bids for Lassana Diarra after Real Madrid decided to sell the midfielder, according to the Daily Star. The French international has been the subject of Barclays Premier League transfer speculation for several months now, and the Daily Star claims Los Blancos are ready to let the player leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Real president Florentino Perez has reportedly placed an £18 million price tag on the former Portsmouth star’s head, a fee that both the United and Spurs could afford to meet Rated – 2

According to the Mirror, Sir Alex Ferguson will target Tottenham’s Luka Modric, Aston Villa’s Ashley Young and Inter Milan Wesley Sneijder as the Scot seeks to overhaul the Manchester United midfield. With the news of  veteran Paul Scholes retiring as well as the release of  Owen Hargreaves, United will be keen to bolster their midfield options. It’s believed United could face competition from rivals for the signature of Young while Tottenham and Inter will be desperate to keep hold of their respective stars. The chances of Sir Alex signing all three can only be Rated – 1

Which one of these targets will you welcome most at Old Trafford?

Well if we want to compete with the best then we need world class players and looking at the list you can rule out Adams and Rodwell, Coentrao I am not sure not seen him play but read good reports, Diarra is a ok but not a world beater and cant hold his position at Madrid, I would like to see United break the bank for Luka Modric and Bale the two best players at Spurs, this would bolster our midfield witch we need.
Fergie, go for the best we have enough mediocre player at the moment which have proved are not good enough to compete at the highest level.

I have to say Night Life that we do compete at the highest level – there is only one team better than us and probably better than almost all teams in history. I’m not saying we can’t improve and I’d agree that Adams and Rodwell wouldn’t add much with respect to competing against Barça but results speak for themselves . PL Champions, CL Runners Up FA Semi’s.
