Sir Alex does not need ANOTHER domestic

First it was Wayne Rooney, then it was Ryan Giggs, now it’s England star Ashley Young who yesterday called off his wedding – just two days before the £200,000 ceremony. The Aston Villa ace  who is negotiating a £20million move to Manchester United – was due to marry sweetheart Nicky Pike tomorrow. But guests invited to their lavish wedding at five star The Grove hotel and spa near Watford have been told not to bother turning up. Ashley last night refused to disclose why his marriage is now off.

Asked on the doorstep of his £1.5million home – with Nicky at his side – what prompted the last minute decision, he said simply “No comment.” Nicky confirmed the nuptials had been axed. She said “Yes, we have cancelled our wedding.” Forcing a smile she added “Do I look upset?” Later she added “It’s not anyone else’s business. It’s not your life, it’s mine.”

Ashley, 25, and Nicky, 26, have been together for around ten years first dating when they were still at school. They have a boy aged five and a girl three. Young is now expected to fly out to Las Vegas on Sunday.

One friend, who was due to attend the wedding said last night “It’s come out of the blue, a complete shock.”

Will Young be a good signing for Sir Alex under the circumstances?

Hes good dont get me wrong but 20 million for a guy with only one year on his deal is too much. And then to compound that I then hear we have accepted a bid of only 12 million for Gibson, O Shea and Brown. Why is it we always sell for peanuts, it does my head in? Gibbo alone is worth 8 million and O Shea at least 6 million

I think English players are costly.Ashley Young’s case is based on thd fact that a couple of teams started to get interested.Even though he knew exactly what he wanted-Man United.Noisy neighbours are believed to be luring him with promise of big money.Credit Ashley Young for his sense of direction. He was never going to get carried away by money. He wants to succeed as a player and win trophies at the highest level. It doesn’t get better than at Manchester United.

@Danny : I cannot agree more. I always hear of our strategy of buying players when they are young, so as to have a decent price for them when we sell them. But barring Ronaldo, we have sold almost everyone for peanuts. I hope this crap of selling Gibson, O’Shea and Brown is what it is – CRAP!
