Former Manchester United defender’s Jaap Stam has made a shock return to Manchester United as a talent scout. The former Holland defender’s relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson was critical when his candid 2001 autobiography carped the Fergie and some players like Roy Keane.

The centre back was sold to Lazio within weeks but the 36-year-old, who retired last year after ending his playing career at Ajax, is reported to be working as a scout for United.

Stam was spotted in Porto Alegre in Brazil this week to watch a youth-team match between Internacional and Ceramica. It is believed that United have been linked with Gremio’s Douglas Costa and Stam saw the creative midfielder put in a man-of-the-match performance in just his second start.

Costa has just signed a new contract with Gremio after turning 18, increasing his buy-out clause from £5million to £21m after reports also linked him to Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Dubbed the ‘new jewel of Brazilian football’ by Gremio president Paulo Odone, Costa is already impressing coaches and team-mates, scoring from 20 yards in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Botafogo.

Sir Alex Ferguson is pleased that he finally got some talents from Brazil, remember Kleberson’s nightmare, and he will be happy to add Costa to the long young Brazilian players list.

Welcome back Jaap!

Manchester United agreed to pay £30 millions to buy their long term target Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Spurs. According to Alkhaleej newspaper in UAE, Manchester United have agreed to pay Spurs asking price with an extra £3 millions so they withdraw any case about United illegal attempts to sign the Bulgarian striker from the court.

However, our team panel stayed yesterday till midnight to find any news about Berbatov signing, there were no clear news. While some of the press release available today reported that a deal to be completed today after Berbatov passes medical. Stuart Mathieson from Manchester evening suggests Berbatov will move to Manchester United by midnight to end one of the longest transfer saga in England this season.

Berbatov wasn’t at Stamford Bridge yesterday for Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea and Spurs coach Gus Poyet said after the game that the press will know tomorrow if Berbatov has played his last game with Tottenham.

Now, Hull City manager Phil Brown hopes that United completes Berbatov deal, so his £7millions offer to sign Fraizer Campbell will be accepted by Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Tigers, who had the 20-year-old Yorkshireman on loan last season, wants to strength their forward by adding Campbell and manager Phil Brown says: “Hopefully we’ll get the thumbs up and be able to move on Fraizer.”

Do you think Berbatov will finally be at Old Trafford?

They were searching for a replacement for Luiz Felipe Scolari, after the Brazilian left to Chelsea. Scolari was named as Avram Grant’s replacement during Euro 2008 before Portugal knocked out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage. Manchester United assistant manager Queiroz was immediately set as the preferred choice for the job, but he had to wait until the outcome of the talks between Manchester United and Portugal. There has been some rumor that Queiroz could wish to remain at Old Trafford, with Sir Alex Ferguson see on him the right man to be the next Man United manager.

Queiroz expressed his happens to answer his country call and will look to guide Portugal to glory at the next World Cup in South Africa.

“I am very proud and honoured to be able to go back and serve my country,” Queiroz was quoted as saying in a statement from the FPF.

“This is a very special position that any professional would want.”

Now, Sir Alex should start a quick search for his new right hand and reports are suggesting that Brian McClair, Mick Phelan and even Eric Cantona have been linked with the role.

Barnsley manager Simon Davey is flattered when he was linked with one of the best jobs in football, to be Sir Alex Ferguson number two at Manchester United, after it is likely that Carlos Queiroz is going to leave Old Trafford for the Portugal job.

Queiroz is leaving the top of the European Champions and is going to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari, while the “Sunday Times” says Simon, is among the four coaches who are going to take the manager assistance job in the theater of dream .

Simon told the official Barnsley FC website: “It is flattering to be linked with a club of such stature but I have a job here. We must be doing something right if I am being linked with jobs like this.

“We still have a long way to go at Oakwell and we are all looking forward to the new season”.

The Sunday Times claims:

Brian McClair, highly regarded by Ferguson for his work as the club’s academy director, is among those likely to be considered as a replacement, although United may also look at up-and-coming Championship managers, such as Barnsley’s Simon Davey, Simon Grayson of Blackpool and Swansea’s Roberto Martinez.

United are looking to appoint Brian McClair as replacement to Carlos Queiroz, Sir Alex Ferguson’s No 2, who is expected to take over from Luiz Felipe Scolari as Portugal manager. Queiroz will be meeting with the Portuguese FA officials in Lisbon today to discuss the deal. Although the club wants compensation for Queiroz, Sir Alex Ferguson lost little time to identify McClair as a potential replacement. McClair, who was appointed director of the youth academy last year, was part of the team of the backroom staff since 2001 and has played for the club for over a decade.

Queiroz played a major role in Manchester United including recent successes back to back Premier League titles and last season UEFA champions league. Although he is being offered more money to stay at the club as Fergie’s No. 2, has preferred to help Portugal and try to win the world cup.

Queiroz has informed both Portugal and Manchester United of his decision according to the mirror. “I can say little more than you know at this time,” Queiroz said. “Currently, the matter is out of my hands. From my part, there is not much to say, it needs to be resolved between the federation and Manchester United. “We must wait calmly. I have spoken with the two parties and now I wait for movement.”

If Queiroz leaves, Sir Alex will be forced to appoint the sixth assistant in his 22 years at the club. McClair, who was credited for his work with the junior team, is familiar with the structure of the club and his appointment would reduce trouble to the team, but it won’t add the same experience of that the Portuguese brought to the job.

Queiroz has managed Real Madrid, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates and was also coach of Portugal Under-20. He first came to Manchester United in 2002 and played a crucial role in Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson move to Old Trafford.
