United wins group – just as Ferguson ordered

It was not easy but the job was completed in the end. Mind you, had only half the chances created by Manchester United been taken, the game could have been won before half time. Not for the first time this season, good opportunities went begging and United nearly paid a heavy price when Pablo gave Valencia the lead against the run of play just after the half hour. It took an all too rare Anderson equaliser after 62 minutes to get the one point needed to ensure top place in the group.

United on target for another first against Valencia

Despite the heavy 0-4 defeat suffered at West Ham in the Carling Cup last week, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to again leave a number of senior players out of his starting lineup for Tuesday night’s Champions League meeting with Valencia. Both clubs have already qualified for the knockout round although top spot in Group C is still up for grabs. United have 13 points from five games and will win the group if they avoid defeat against the Spaniards.

English clubs to fail in Europe but hang on, United to win the Champions League! Che?

It’s a well known and medically accepted fact that the older we get, the more confusing life becomes. Well here’s someone just a couple of years younger than Sir Alex Ferguson who was totally bamboozled by two totally conflicting reports which appeared on the very same, unnamed website, within a few minutes of each other. Greavsie insists that Roo’s smoking is no big deal

You’ve heard of Jimmy Greaves of course, everyone has even though he stopped playing nearly 40 years ago. Greaves was one of the greatest goal scorers England has ever produced which makes his recent comments in The People newspaper about Wayne Rooney being photographed smoking a cigarette quite interesting. The world cup winner argues that it never did him any harm nor will it damage anyone else. In a piece titled “What’s so bad about Wayne Rooney having a fag?” Greaves presents a highly debatable point of view but guess what? It’s an opinion that this long time smoker  totally agrees with!

Jaap Stam remembers the glory year of The Treble

Like every other football club manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made his share of mistakes during his 25 years at Old Trafford but admits that his biggest one was accepting an offer from Lazio for Jaap Stam at the start of the 2001-02 season. Fergie has since made his peace with the central defender who was sold against the backdrop of dressing room revelations in his autobiography and doesn’t mind admitting that he is still troubled by selling the big Dutchman.
