United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is planning to sell his £30million  striker Dimitar Berbatov this summer and Bayern Munich – who knocked United out of the Champions League, are monitoring the situation. The German giants are closely looking at the possibility of offering the Bulgarian an escape route out of  Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s Champions League quarter final at Bayern Munich gave the BBC an opportunity to have a close look at two very different financial models of how clubs should operate in order to obtain long term viability.
