Lay off Rooney for his memorable TV quote


DATELINE – Munich, March 30, 2009. A sensational season virtually came to an end for Wayne Rooney as he went down in a heap with an ankle injury seconds from the final whistle at Bayern Munich thus beginning a year made in hell for the golden boy of English football. A disastrous World Cup was soon followed by lurid tabloid headlines, a ‘dream’ marriage clearly on the rocks, lengthy court cases against him and his personal manager, a stunning transfer request which rocked the game and his personal life in total turmoil. The current season went on and on with no apparent relief – until the weekends game at West Ham.

Boffins Reckon United For The Title


Wynn Grant over at the brilliant Football Economy has highlighted some research done by the egg-heads at the Professional Football Players Observatory (no, I hadn’t heard of them either) that believes that, of all the teams in contention for the Premiership title this year, Man United are the most likely ones to be lifting the trophy come the end of the season. United to visit Cantona's home town in Europe


So Manchester United face French club Marseille in the Champions League last sixteen. It could have been worse even though this will not be an easy tie but it’s certainly a winnable one which should see United safely into the quarter finals. Marseille are currently lying in fifth position in the French League having lost 4 times and qualified from their European group in second place having lost their first two matches before coming back with four straight wins.
