Media Watch June 16: Fergie may deny Dalglish

That Bebe myth created by a lying media


Here’s a perfect example, if one is needed, which shows that we must never, EVER automatically believe what we read in the media. Much was made of Bebe having been a homeless Portugese kid when Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to Manchester United. Yet here’s his straight and unequivocal answer when asked by the club magazine Inside United if he had ever lived on the streets No, this is not true, I have never lived on the street” It cannot be much simpler than that can it?  Bebe talks about that myth and gives an insight into his past when answering questions put to him by the magazine.

United hit by injuries for tough Wolves challenge


Manchester United’s Champions League victory in Bursa has come at a cost after Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed both Nani and Darren Fletcher have sustained injuries. Nani has been in wonderful form this season but only lasted half an hour before sustaining a groin injury while Fletcher was substituted in the second half with an ankle problem. Ferguson said both players are likely to miss the test against Wolves on Saturday.

A fourth European clean sheet in a Turkish stroll


Mission accomplished – almost. The comfortable 3-0 defeat of  Bursaspor in Turkey virtually guaranteed Manchester United of progressing to the knock out stages of the Champions League with two matches to spare. There were many positive aspects in a good second half display from a severely weakened side with Gabriel Obertan and Bebe’s first European goals certain to boost the youngsters’ confidence. Another was the ability of the defence to maintain a clean sheet for the fourth successive Group C match.

Rooney has a heavy dose of both greed AND envy


You must know what it’s like when you’re in the middle of working on something then have your attention drawn to another matter which makes you so angry that you forget what you were doing in the first place. While in the middle of writing about an entirely different subject, a headline from the Mail Online came through which stated “Wayne Rooney: I am too good for Manchester United – even though Sir Alex Ferguson has landed 35 trophies”. It sounded like nothing but absolute, sheer arrogance!

Why the likes of Glazer and Hicks are here to stay


A pioneering deal signed between Manchester United and Hong Kong based telecommunications giant PCCW this month has pretty much gone under the radar as far as most of the mainstream media has been concerned. Yet it presents a clear indication of why club owners like the Glazer family and Liverpool’s Tom Hicks are absolutely determined to hang on to their prized asset despite piling on debts of millions upon millions of pounds on themselves and their clubs. Despite the efforts and prayers of so many football fans, those owners will go to any desperate measure they possibly can and are not likely to be going anywhere soon. If they do, they will simply be replaced by others – JUST LIKE THEM!
