You really have to hand it to the old fox. While all the attention has been on the “Will he” or “Won’t he” attempt to sign German international Mesut Ozil, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has snuck under everybody’s radar to complete the transfer of the relatively unknown 20 year old Portugese striker Bebe from Vitoria de Guimaraes for a reported £7.4m

If anyone ever wants to open a can of worms amongst Manchester United fans all he has to do is say the word BERBATOV and you can be guaranteed that heated discussions will immediately follow. Then of course there are the huge wages offered to tempt players some of whom are barely out of their teens. Little wonder that it’s known as the silly season.

Sunderland 0 vs Manchester United 1 (Nani)

If ever a single game reflected an entire season, this 1-0 defeat of a feisty Sunderland by Manchester United at the Stadium of Light must go mighty close to it. They enjoyed a confident enough start in which Nani put his side ahead just before the half hour with a sharp finish at the end of a fluid move involving no lass than six one touch passes. That confidence slowly disappeared during a nervous second half in which a stretched defence had to work hard to protect that slender lead.
