Are you planning a lazy Sunday after the great results on Saturday afternoon? A 5-0 hammering of Birmingham at Old Trafford, Tottenham fortunate to get a last minute draw at Newcastle and best of all, watching Manchester City being brought down to earth with a fifth defeat of the season. It cannot get much better than that can it? United have lost 5 points fewer than Arsenal, 9 less than the cross town Blue pretenders while reigning champions Chelsea are 10 points worse off and Spurs appear to be out of the title race. There's still a mighty long way to go of course and we have learned over the years that things have a habit of rapidly changing in football but for now at least, let's enjoy the wonderful position United appear to be in and reflect on some of the best video moments of the last decade. Just click on the photo and enjoy eight minutes of magic.

Precisely what was expected, a Manchester United stroll which could have easily reached double figures. As it turned out, Dimitar Berbatov led the rout of Birmingham City with his third hat trick of the season to cement his position as the Leagues leading scorer with 17 in his 19 appearances. With United having a game in hand over its rivals and both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City again surprisingly dropping points, should United be able to dispose of Blackpool on Tuesday night the title chase may soon develop into a two horse race with Arsenal. The only disappointment in a sparkling display was the continuing inability of Wayne Rooney to find the net but his overall game suggested that he may not be far off from getting back to his explosive best.

Manchester United fans have traditionally been generous in giving former players a warm welcome whenever they return to Old Trafford with their new club. Saturday afternoon will be no different when Birmingham City goalkeeper Ben Foster comes back to his former home for the first time since his £6million transfer in the summer. And why not? Foster made a total of 23 appearances for United during the five years he spent as a red but finally decided that the only way for his career to develop was to move elsewhere.

Manchester United did not even play that night yet it’s a date that could turn out to be THE pivotal day of the season. Arsenal and Manchester City both dropped two points in a scoreless draw at the Emirates while Chelsea and Tottenham were defeated at Wolves and Everton respectively.

How does he do it? Whether it’s with his face, the back of his head or the stunning way Chicharito took his goal against Stoke City, he always seems to improvise a way to find the net! It’s pure instinct, a thing that some players are born with and cannot be coached. Despite scoring their first goal at Old Trafford since 1980, the visitors still went back home empty handed while United are assured of staying on top of the table irrespective of the outcome of the Arsenal v Manchester City clash at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Manchester United are just one game short of the seasons half way mark yet the old, old theory which stood the test of time in the days of two points for a win surprisingly seems to be holding. Win at home, draw away and enough points are accumulated to win the title. It's certainly not what Sir Alex Ferguson aims for in this day and age when a draw is not much better than a defeat but if it means being top of the table, does anyone care?

So were these another two points lost or a valuable one gained? It’s worth remembering that this was the fourth time that United has failed to take full points from St Andrews in their last five visits so perhaps the outcome should not be all that surprising. In such a tightly fought title race, this could be the one point that makes the difference in the final outcome. As always, my complete faith lies in Sir Alex Ferguson.
