Nothing ever seems to change for Manchester United. If there’s a difficult way to do something you can rest assured they will find it. From an apparent comfortable position at the top of the table, United now find themselves with just a defeat by Chelsea at Old Trafford next Sunday from seeing their title hopes melt away. Was it a hugely disappointing setback? Most certainly. Was it a fatal one? Far from it because very little has changed when you consider the big picture.

Rather than presenting a Manchester United view on what can reasonably be regarded as our biggest game of the season, let’s have a look at what a Newcastle fan thinks about our visit to St James’ Park. Ed Harrison admits that “We don’t expect anything out of the game with United on Tuesday night. Maybe that’s because Newcastle cannot field anywhere near their best team, with all the injuries and suspensions the club has had this year. Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan will miss the game through suspension and Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling, Leon Best and Alan Smith are all out with injuries, although Gosling is back in training since last Wednesday, which is some very good news.

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Manchester United on the back of an away defeat to Bolton on Tuesday when a disastrous Ronald Zubar back pass allowed Daniel Sturridge to steal a 93rd minute winner at the Reebok Stadium. In it’s preview of the game manutd.com continued That result left Mick McCarthy’s men three points adrift at the bottom of the Barclays Premier League, in the starkest contrast to United who are now five points clear at the right end of the table. Sir Alex Ferguson’s current side have matched the 1999 Treble winners’ run of 29 league games without defeat and will fancy making it 30 having won all six clashes with Wolves since losing 1-0 at Molineux in 2004. Both clubs were then in the same positions they are now – top and bottom.

Manchester United face Southampton in the 4th round of the FA Cup on Saturday in game where they are expected to comfortably progress to the next round. United are sitting proudly on top of the Premiership and are widely regarded as hot favourites to end up as this seasons champions. The Saints on the other hand are fighting to stay in the race for promotion from league Division One to the Championship.
