Ed Harrison admits that “We don’t expect anything out of the game with United on Tuesday night. Maybe that’s because Newcastle cannot field anywhere near their best team, with all the injuries and suspensions the club has had this year. Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan will miss the game through suspension and Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling, Leon Best and Alan Smith are all out with injuries, although Gosling is back in training since last Wednesday, which is some very good news.

It’s been said many times. We can all be the greatest managers in the world AFTER the game yet there are still some uncomfortable questions which keeps arising after Manchester United’s defeat at Molineux. Let me make it absolutely clear from the start that nobody has a higher respect for Sir Alex Fergusons judgement than I do. After all, who the hell am I to question his decisions? No doubt, there are times when gambles have to be taken by football managers, some are won, others lost and let’s face it, Sir Alex has come up trumps far more often than not over a long period of time. Even with the benefit of hindsight however, some questions still cannot help but go through my mind.

United made one of their now famous comebacks as they roared back to surge five points clear at the top of the table. Completely on top with a good lead, it appeared Blackpool would end United’s unbeaten record and achieve a result that would go down in their history books. But those goals from Craig Cathcart and DJ Campbell were not enough to deny United as they exploded into life with the introduction of Ryan Giggs and Javier Hernandez.

The big freeze may have cost Manchester United it’s place at the top of the table simply because Blackpool’s 110 year old Bloomfield Road Stadium is the only one in the Premier League not equipped with an undersoil heating system. The disruption and inconvenience caused by that postponement should not be acceptable in this day and age. United and its fans happened to be the ones to suffer this weekend but it could have just as easily been any other club.
