Neville celebrates 600 while the media blatantly lies

To say that apart from his Manchester United fans, veteran Gary Neville is not the best loved footballer in England will be a gross understatement. Despite that, he will go down in history as an Old Trafford legend having become United’s 5th highest in the club’s all time appearance list behind Paul Scholes, Bill Foulkes, Bobby Charlton and Ryan Giggs when he made his 600th United appearance at Stoke.

Greavsie insists that Roo’s smoking is no big deal

You’ve heard of Jimmy Greaves of course, everyone has even though he stopped playing nearly 40 years ago. Greaves was one of the greatest goal scorers England has ever produced which makes his recent comments in The People newspaper about Wayne Rooney being photographed smoking a cigarette quite interesting. And Roo is not the only current Manchester United player to enjoy having a puff as photos of Dimitar Berbatov and Federico Macheda clearly show. The world cup winner argues that it never did him any harm nor will it damage anyone else. In a piece titled “What’s so bad about Wayne Rooney having a fag?” Greaves presents a highly debatable point of view but guess what? It’s an opinion that this long time smoker  totally agrees with!

His answers were then published in the magazine and are as interesting today as they were at that time. Some readers may have come across the answers Best gives in this article before but for those who like myself had never seen this piece, these are The Thoughts of George Best.

Carragher should have invited Gary Neville as well!

A comment made by Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher prior to his testimonial on Saturday confirmed once and for all what thousands of Scousers have been stubbornly denying for years. While stating that he would love to interview Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson more than anyone else in football, Carra has been quoted as saying “If I was in his company, I would also tell him, first off, that Manchester United never knocked Liverpool off their ******* perch, as he put it. That’s just nonsense. Graeme Souness did that.”

Dimitar is fast going from ‘Berbaflop’ to ‘Berbatop’

Manchester United  3  vs  West Ham  0

What a difference twelve months can make! It was only this time last year that calls for Sir Alex Ferguson to show Nani and Dimitar Berbatov the Old Trafford door were growing louder. Yet apart from each grabbing a spectacular goal on Saturday, they  turned on a performances which had ‘class’ written all over it. Together with veteran Paul Scholes they ran the show in a game that United never looked like losing.

The only concern in an otherwise polished display was the amount of goalscoring opportunities which continue to go begging game after game. Both the Hammers and Newcastle could, and should, have been beaten by twice the margin this season while the failure to take the chances created at Craven Cottage proved costly. It’s a waste that Ferguson will certainly be having a serious look at.
