Envious Manchester United fans have often stated in their ‘wink, wink, nudge, nudge, I know something you don’t’ manner that Sir Alex Ferguson has a group of agents in charge of rival clubs to help him win Premiership titles. They allegedly include Sam Allardyce, Alex McLeish, Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes and goodness knows who else they may imagine in their tiny, little minds. Well here’s another one to add to that list, Sir Alex has planted Manchester City assistant Brian Kidd at Eastlands because his former right hand man has hoisted the white flag by insisting that “The title is Manchester United’s to chuck away”. That’s it then, Citeh are no longer title challengers this season because Kidd has surrendered his club’s chances.

It has to be as sure a bet as you’re ever likely to get, not quite impossible to lose but as near a certainty as can be. Managing the same club for 700 consecutive Premier League matches is a record that nobody will ever take from Sir Alex Ferguson. That milestone was reached at Goodison Park on Saturday but overall, the Scotsman has been in charge of Manchester United on 1336 occasions. Manchester City assistant manager Brian Kidd is a former United player and coach but that has not stopped him from sending out a warning to his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson that “We’re coming to get you”. The former Old Trafford legend is also the first to admit however that until City win some sort of trophy which they have failed to do since lifting the League Cup way back in 1976, there is still a long way to go before they have United running scared. From the perspective of committed Manchester United fans, that challenge should be welcomed with open arms.

A 22 man Manchester United squad flies out to Chicago on Monday to kick off the pre season tour of North America with new signing Javier Hernandez joining the team in Houston later in the month. The more interesting aspect however is the number of names missing from the touring party because of injuries. Club captain Gary Neville is the latest withdrawal having been ruled out with a small tear to his calf muscle.
