When Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson signed  Javier Hernandez for £7 million from Mexico’s Chivas back in April he described him as being “two footed, very quick, in possession of a good spring and a natural goalscorer”. ‘Chicharito’ has since proven Ferguson right and quickly won over the fans at Old Trafford. The more interesting aspect however is the number of names missing from the touring party because of injuries. Club captain Gary Neville is the latest withdrawal having been ruled out with a small tear to his calf muscle.

Mexico striker Javier Hernandez is a relieved young man today after an FA panel granted Manchester United an application for a work visa, thus giving the green light to start a career at Old Trafford and ending fears that the £7million transfer deal having be scrapped. The 21 year old Hernandez sealed a move to England last month but did not meet the criteria for a permit as he has not played in 75 per cent of Mexico’s games over the past two years.

Manchester United fans had their first look at new signing Javier Hernandez when the man known as Chicharito came on as a second half substitute during Mexico’s 3-1 defeat in Monday nights World Cup warm up game at Wembley Stadium. The 21 year old did not really have a chance to shine as England displayed a marked second half improvement to clinch victory.
