It makes you wonder how major club managers can possibly juggle the commitments of their admittedly large squads. Just look at what Sir Alex Ferguson is up against for the rest of this year following Sundays home clash with Arsenal. It’s enough to give anyone nightmares as key players travel across the world for international duties on no less than three occasions. That’s on top of a heavy domestic and Champion League schedule but Sir Alex is of course not the only one facing this dilemma, many leading Premier League and European club bosses have to somehow wrestle with the same problem. It’s little wonder that so called super squads are no longer a luxury but an absolute must if clubs are to have any hope of winning silverware.

June 16, 2011 – There are more Manchester United stories in the media than any other club – some are worth reading, others are absolute garbage! How can anyone possibly keep up with them all? Truly Reds does it’s best to bring you the latest news but there’s only so much that can be covered. One alternative is to collate the stories which cannot be updated daily so that they can at least be brought to your attention each Thursday of every week

Here’s a warning to Manchester United for whenever a new major sponsor comes on board in the years ahead. It’s contained in a report which appeared in The Independent – widely regarded as one of the most reliable newspapers in Britain, clearly stating how easily the tail can end up wagging the dog. Global bank Standard Chartered is the shirt sponsor of Liverpool Football Club until at least the end of the 2013-14 campaign to the tune of £20m a season. That’s one hell of a lot of money to rely upon but there’s nothing unusual in it. Most major football clubs have no choice but to operate like that these days, so what’s so disturbing about it?

The boss is fighting mad, his Manchester United side is facing a backs to the wall fight to regain the title. And nobody does siege mentality better than the Sir Alex Ferguson. It doesn’t matter who has upset him, whether it be the authorities, the media, fans, referees or fellow managers, when it comes to the crunch and United are under threat, the blockade is put in place. Former United defender Gary Pallister played under Sir Alex for 9 years winning four titles and three FA Cups. He told M.E.N’s Stuart Mathieson “I saw it for the first time in 1990”
