Roberto Martinez’s post matc
h quote after Wigan’s 4 – 0 defeat at Old Trafford on Saturday. “He (Welbeck) dived for the penalty; you’ll see it on the replay. The penalty was as bad a decision as you’re going to see. It is a shocking decision, in many ways you find yourself fighting against a mountain. I have come to United three times now, we’ve had three players sent off, and we just never seem to be measured in the same manner” Read the full story

Scholes & Jones Look Dejected As Kompany Reels Away In Joy
The biggest and most important Manchester derby of recent times brought with it disappointment and begrudging acceptance that the opposition deserved the win and were the better side for Manchester United fans. For some disappointment led to anger and frustration even. For others there was shock. We have never known it like this before. We have seen United claw back deficits to win titles before but we have never seen United claw back a deficit, establish a healthy lead with only a handful of games left to go and then relinquish the lead. Never ever! The closest compared to what we are experiencing now is having our own lead clawed back but that was when United were leading the title race; 1991-92,1994-95,1997-98. Read the full story

On a weekend, where the entire football world and m
ore witnessed a very sad and sickening scene in Italy as Livorno’s Pierpaolo Morosini tried to stay on his feet as he battled a cardiac arrest before succumbing to a tragic death on the way to hospital. What makes it more tragic was his background and how he kept fighting on and playing with a smile inspite of the various tragedies in his family. Morosini passed away at a young age of 25, three years younger than me. Our thoughts should go out to him as it were for everyone at Old Trafford where a minute’s silence was held in his memory before Manchester United’s match against Aston Villa. Read the full story

Eight wins in a row, eight points clear at the top at the end of the game against Queen’s Park Rangers in a carnival atmosphere at Old Trafford. Inevitably, at the end of the game, most of the questions were about the controversial sending off of QPR’s captain, Shaun Derry and the subsequent penalty. Mark Hughes, an undoubted club legend was left fuming at the end of the first half and the match and for a club fighting for its lives near the bottom of the table, his fury is justifiable. On the positive side for Sparky, his nearest rivals at the wrong end of the table all lost the day before and due to Blackburn Rover’s defeat, QPR are out of the relegation zone by virtue of a better goal difference compared to Blackburn. There was an explosion of joy at the final whistle at the Darwen End of Ewood Park. Manchester United fans have a reason to celebrate as they came away from Ewood Park with 3 points and in that process, extended their lead at the to
p of the Barclays Premier League to 5 points over nearest rival, Manchester City. The fact that the rival is City made the celebrations sweeter but the a word of caution, the league is not over yet so keep the celebrations in check.
Ewood Park is a tough place for United to go to. In our last 10 matches there, we have only won twice. Blackburn Rovers had also stunned us on New Year’s Eve with a 3-2 win at Old Trafford. The visitors were also in a good run which was halted last week by a Fabrice Muamba-inspired Bolton Wanderers. The hosts were fighting to stay up in the Premier League so the points mattered to them as much as it mattered to the Red Devils. Pre-kick off, anyone with a United inclination would be worried about the outcome of this match considering the record we have had at Ewood Park in recent past and because of the shock result against them this season which spoiled many New Year parties of United followers mine included.
