Meaningless internationals can cost clubs plenty


Chelsea’s home game against Manchester United originally set down for December 18 last year was snowed off. It was then rescheduled for March 1 BUT that may need to be postponed again until May depending on results in the FA Cup. That’s five full months after its original date, five months in which a suitable date could not be found. Yet Wednesday February 9 would have been perfectly acceptable for all concerned EXCEPT that England was set down to play a game in Denmark which is nothing more than a friendly, exhibition, training match, call it what you will, but certainly a totally meaningless one (and looking at the latest online betting odds, they’re favourites to win). WHY?

It’s finally official: Lindegaard signs for United


It’s now official. Manchester United has made an announcement that the club has completed the deal for 26 year old Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard in which it stated that “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Aalesunds FK to sign Danish international goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard on a 3½ year deal for an undisclosed fee. Personal terms have been agreed with the player, who passed a medical in Manchester. Anders will train with United during December but will be ineligible to play until the transfer window opens in January 2011.

United may need TWO keepers to replace Edwin!


It’s a well known fact that newspapers are not exactly the bastions of truth but there are some which have proven to be more reliable than others, The Guardian is one of them. If you can believe what it is reporting, Manchester United is looking  for not one but TWO goalkeepers to replace veteran Edwin van der Sar when his imminent retirement is eventually announced. According to a report published on Thursday, United has “provisionally agreed a £3.5m deal to replace Edwin van der Sar with a goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has flatly described as not good enough to play for the club. Anders Lindegaard, the newly established Danish international, will move to Old Trafford in January but Schmeichel thinks Sir Alex Ferguson is making a serious error bringing in the 26 year old from the Norwegian club Aalesunds FK.

Mark Bosnich says Fergie instigated Rooney saga


Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich believes that the Wayne Rooney saga was all a sham stage managed by Sir Alex Ferguson to put pressure on the Glazers into freeing up more money for him to bolster the squad. The now retired Australian who spent five years under Ferguson in two spells at Old Trafford told the Fox Sports channel that in his opinion “Sir Alex basically played a very, very smart move”

Nani outshines Ronaldo as Fletcher suffers defeat


The 2012 European Championship qualifiers on the weekend provided starkly contrasting fortunes for two of  Manchester United’s internationals. While Nani was turning on a dazzling performance in Portugals’ 3-1 home defeat of Denmark, Darren Fletcher and Scotland went down 0-1 to the Czech Republic in Prague to leave the Scots trailing in second place behind Spain in their group. They now face a crunch match with the world champions at Hampden Park on Tuesday night.
