Fergie remembers the influence of Jimmy Murphy

There is a house in Brookfield Avenue in Poynton, Cheshire, that forms a direct link between the team that appeared for Manchester United at Wembley in 1968 and the team Sir Alex Ferguson will send out against Barcelona. A house that was once the home of Jimmy Murphy and was the setting for one of the most important meetings in the history of the club. The historic, long forgotten United fixtures

This book spans over 60 years of Manchester United history, including little known facts and anecdotes. It features an extensive collection of memorabilia, match tickets and photographs. The “Forgotten Fixtures” completes the post war history as it covers the games that rarely receive a mention. The book starts its journey immediately after the war years and continues up to present day. It takes you the length and breadth of Britain, from Mallorca to Melbourne and Israel to Iran detailing often meaningless ninety minutes of football at obscure, out of the way places.

1957 – When Aston Villa halted a United double

Whenever Manchester United and Aston Villa meet, my mind invariably goes back to the very first FA Cup Final that I have a clear memory of. United were the newly crowned League Champions and just 90 minutes away from completing the first League – Cup double of the century, a double deemed by most pundits at the time as no longer being possible to achieve.
