It’s come down to a simple equation. Fifteen points left to play for from which Manchester United need to get ten to ensure the Premier League trophy returning to Old Trafford for the fourth time in the last five seasons – and clinch a record 19 titles in the process. Liverpool born striker Wayne Rooney is desperate for United to complete the job confessing to United Review recently that “winning a record title and overtaking Liverpool would mean so much to us players as well as the fans. I know all the Everton fans want us to do it and that’s our aim”

So why am I talking about Citeh you may ask? After all, this is a Manchester United website. The answer is simple. Despite what City assistant manager Brian Kidd tells the media, the Blues major objective this season was not just to get a top four position or win some sort of silverware. City are desperate – and their fans absolutely crave, finishing ahead of United in order to claim bragging rights. Nothing matters as much as that for them hence those juvenile billboards erected across the City! If, and I concede that it’s a mighty big IF, that challenge is over before the end of January, United fans have every right to gloat about the seemingly endless superiority their club has enjoyed over the Blues for decades.

The 2010-11 season is barely past the half way stage but you may want to note Wednesday January 5 in your diary. Manchester United did not even play that night yet it’s a date that could turn out to be THE pivotal day of the season. Arsenal and Manchester City both dropped two points in a scoreless draw at the Emirates while Chelsea and Tottenham were defeated at Wolves and Everton respectively.

So the heavy snow has ruined the weekend for most football fans – and it may get worse. All the cancellations have distorted the Premier League table to such an extent that should Manchester City take all three points from Everton on Monday night, we will see an improbable sight that only happens once in a ‘blue moon’, City sitting on top of the table on Christmas day.
