Manchester United fans had a great night at Craven Cottage as they saw Sir Alex’s players defeating Fulham with five goals and keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders ManCity. United flew at the hosts and were soon ahead when Danny Welbeck converted Nani’s cross. Nani headed home from Ryan Giggss cross before the two reversed roles for the third. Two wins out of two, six goals scored and only one conceded post the black, dark and gloomy night of Basel. The first performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers was very good as we banged in 4 goals, breaking out of the 1 goal trend of the matches prior to that. However, the lunchtime kickoff against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road was slated to be a tougher match for the Red Devils and we came through it with a much-needed clean sheet and dominating performance in the final third with the abundance of chances created. The United fans who were closer to the field really added to the atmosphere and it is always nice to see the fans having a blast. Pre-game my thoughts drifted back to the meetings of the 90s when most often than not, United had to slog it out for a win there. We were made to work hard this time too but perhaps not as hard as an uncharacteristic solo run and shot by Michael Carrick finished off the encounter. QPR couldn’t manage a goal to test our nerves at the end so we saw the match out and picked up 3 points smilingly. Read the full story
Believe it or not, there was a time when football was a working mans game for its biggest stars. And no, it was not centuries ago but within the lifetime of many who are reading this. Can anyone imagine the likes of Wayne Rooney earning £8 a week at Manchester United? Yet that was precisely what Englands greatest footballers were faced with just 60 years ago! Yes, it sounds hard to believe in 2011 but I was in my early teens during those days and remember when England captain Johnny Haynes became the first £100 a week player in the early sixties and some pundits predicting the destruction of professional football.
Manchester United today boarded the train to London in their quest for European glory. Sir Alex Ferguson and his squad of millionaires jumped on the Virgin train to Euston as they count down to their showdown with Barcelona at Wembley – and how good was it to see Red Nev playing cards with the lads along the way! The United stars may be the centre of the world’s attention in 48 hours time on Saturday night but they didn’t look like superstars as they shunned flying in favour of travelling overland.

You can cross off another one Mr Ferguson. The marathon is fast approaching the finish line, the winning post looms large and Manchester United still holds a good enough lead that should win Sir Alex another title. Despite the Premier League being his major target, it was obvious that Ferguson had one eye fixed firmly on Tuesday’s second leg Champions League clash with Chelsea as he made changes to his starting line up then threw on the subs as the three points were safely wrapped up.
