Best chance for Glazers to finally earn some kudos

It has become an all too familiar story “George Best memorabilia up for sale – A collection of medals and trophies awarded to foot ball genius George Best are going under the hammer” This follows the recent revelation that England World Cup winner Nobby Stiles has been forced to do likewise and 35 year old former Manchester United midfielder Keith Gillespie has been declared bankrupt. All very sad but the case of Best in particular can be described as tragic.

The thoughts of the Best Manchester United legend

It’s amazing what can be found while doing a little bit of Googling! Four Four Two magazine asked their readers to send questions they would like to ask Manchester United legend George Best four years before he passed away in November 2005. His answers were then published in the magazine and are as interesting today as they were at that time. Some readers may have come across the answers Best gives in this article before but for those who like myself had never seen this piece, these are The Thoughts of George Best.

How the United, Glasgow Rangers rivalry originated

Tuesday nights European Champions League first round clash with Glasgow Rangers at Old Trafford is the second so called ‘Battle of Britain’ in the last seven years. The two sides met at Ibrox on October22, 2003 where United took the three points with a Phil Neville goal after just five minutes. There was however, one other manager in between who has left an immense impression which still remains today, even after more than 30 years. Despite his many shortcomings, Tommy Docherty was that man, a name which may not mean much to many of today’s younger generation of fans but who still evokes memories of those unpredictable days of the seventies.

Six United legends who never made the World Cup

Four years of anticipation and expectations are now only hours away. Some of football’s greatest stars are assembled in South Africa preparing to put on “The Greatest Show On Earth” but a number of others will be watching the 2010 World Cup from their living rooms back home. It must be frustrating for grossly talented players who are capable of lighting up the tournament with their outstanding skills but whose countries were unable to obtain one of the only 32 spots available.

Old Trafford Legends: Pat Crerand 1963-1972

Old Trafford has been the home of numerous football legends over the years but if the Holy Trinity statue of  George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton standing outside the famous ground ever needed a fourth member to complete The Four Musketeers, you can be certain that the leading candidate will be none other than their sixties team mate Pat (Paddy) Crerand.
