Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was deemed to be free to face Manchester United at Old Trafford last Sunday after avoiding a suspension for violent conduct following his clash with Michael Brown during the 4-1 Anfield defeat of Portsmouth. Referee Stuart Attwell insisted that he had witnessed the incident, hence his decision to award a free kick to Portsmouth leaving the FA’s disciplinary unit unable to take further action against Gerrard.

Ryan Giggs is fighting to be fit for Sunday’s eagerly awaited Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Old Trafford. United’s 11 times title winner has been out of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad since fracturing his arm five weeks ago when the 36 year old hurt himself in an accidental collision against Aston Villa at Villa Park in early February.

Manchester United defeated Hull City with three goals to one at the KC Stadium to close the gap at the top of the Premier League to just two points. A goal and an assist from Wayne Rooney froze Hull City in the relegation zone but they still have hope if they will play the same way they did against us.
United back line were boosted with the comeback of Rafael, Wes Brown and Nemanja Vidic which saw Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick return to midfield while Ryan Giggs and Berbatov came in. Read the full story
