It has now been been 13 years since Eric Cantona played his last Premier League game for Manchester United yet the mere mention of his name still sends shivers down the spine of fans who were fortunate enough to experience his five seasons at Old Trafford. Thousands of younger fans will barely remember those halcyon days except for some images on old VHS tapes yet the stories they heard still has them in awe of the great Frenchman.

So here we go again, Real Madrid cannot seem to get enough players away from Old Trafford. Just in the last few years alone Real has head hunted David Beckham in 2003, Ruud van Nistelrooy (2006), Gabriel Heinze (2007) and of course Cristiano Ronaldo last year. It was then made clear recently that super striker Wayne Rooney is their number one target for next season, shown plenty of interest in central defender Nemanja Vidic and now it’s being reported that the Madrid giants are preparing to spark another transfer battle with Manchester United by launching a £20million move for French international Patrice Evra.

It is not often that an end of season Manchester derby is just as important to City as it is to United but Saturday’s clash could go a long way towards deciding whether the home side can break up England’s big four. As for United, they are of course not out of the Premier League title race but even victory at Eastlands would still leave Chelsea strong favourites for the silverware.

Here’s an outrageous thought that comes straight from the heart – Why? Because the head is certain to respond with so many valid, logical reasons against such an idea that it will never get past first base! Sad because romance has long disappeared out of the game, leaving hard headed pragmatism the one and only basis by which decisions are made…and maybe that’s the way it should remain in today’s multi million dollar football business.
