Red Dead Podcast 9 – Youngsters, Idiot Fans, RAWK In Meltdown and Phil Mulryne!

Welcome to the ninth episode of the Red Dead Podcast, the super sexy Manchester United podcast for Truly Reds, brought to you as always by Tom “Darren Fletcher” Addison and Liam “Wrestlemania” Brown.

This week we try to cover United’s last three matches (and decide to skip one), lay into the retarded fans that ruined the Leeds game, get all Sigmund Freud and try to understand the “Cognitive Biases” that make football fans such plebs, and infiltrate fortress RAWK and discuss whether scousers, as some clame, invented the 4-2-3-1 formation.

In what will be a new weekly feature, we also take a trip down memory lane and revisit the youth team legend that was Philip Mulryne, and we announce our new mascot/man-crush for the coming season.

Comments, feedback and questions are greatly appreciated, you can contact us on reddeadpodcast@hotmail.co.uk

Remember, you can also follow us, and Truly Reds, on Twitter: @TrulyReds @TomRDPodcast and @LiamRDPodcast

Join us again soon, where we’ll be dissecting United’s performance against Stoke and generally ranting like old men about all sorts of issues that are beyond our intellectual capacity.

And don’t forget, the 7th Annual Podcast Award nominations are now open! So go on, give us a nomination, you know you want to. Liam will strip for your next birthday if you do.

Ferdinand tells his real story – warts and all!

It must be made clear that this is NOT the latest book written by Rio Ferdinand but it can be argued that it’s the most revealing. In a 384 page, hardcover autobiography written in 2006, ‘Rio, My Story’ talks about his success on the pitch including high drama in the Champions League, the World Cup and a dramatic Premiership victory with Manchester United. If success on the pitch has kept Ferdinand on the back pages, his off pitch story has made him a regular on the front pages.

Fergusons secret: As football changed, so did he

Reproduced from The Telegraph's Rory Smith on 31 Jan 2011 – Sir Alex Ferguson has now seen an incredible 1,069 football club managers lose their jobs since taking charge at Old Trafford in 1986. To him, those figures indicate that managers’ lifespans are growing shorter by the season. In an ESPN exclusive interview in conjunction with the League Managers’ Association, the Scot suggested it was proof that the new breed of club executives must be taught that patience breeds success.

Win or lose to Liverpool but please, NO REPLAY

Common sense dictates that Manchester United could, should and will get past the Liverpool third round FA Cup hurdle on Sunday but nothing can be taken for granted in football and there can be no better example than last season's 0-1 home defeat by Leeds United to ram home that message. Like every other United fan, I crave defeating the Scousers and obtain safe passage to the fourth round BUT, if the unexpected should happen, I would much rather suffer a painful loss than face the prospect of an unwanted replay that in the bigger scheme of things, United can do without.

No guarantee but history points to United

It’s an absolute given that history can never be guaranteed to repeat itself but it can certainly give some encouraging signals. Manchester United has remained unbeaten in the Premier League since that controversial 2-1 defeat against eventual champions Chelsea at Old Trafford last April and have managed to finish 2010 with that 1-1 draw at St Andrews as the only team in England yet to lose a Premiership game this season. In addition, United have lost 16 points from their eight drawn matches so far, 5 fewer than  Arsenal, 6 less than Manchester City and 7 than Chelsea. Not a bad advantage to take into the New Year.

The thoughts of the Best Manchester United legend

It’s amazing what can be found while doing a little bit of Googling! Four Four Two magazine asked their readers to send questions they would like to ask Manchester United legend George Best four years before he passed away in November 2005. His answers were then published in the magazine and are as interesting today as they were at that time. Some readers may have come across the answers Best gives in this article before but for those who like myself had never seen this piece, these are The Thoughts of George Best.
