Oh How It Hurts to lose there…..

Oh how it hurts to lose to one of the teams that we absolutely hate losing to; Liverpool. How the faces got gloomy and sullen after a defeat like that. The emotions felt at this point of time would be one of heartbreak and disappointment after a late winner by Liverpool in a game that was in most parts dominated by Manchester United. The Scousers would feel that justice had been done as Patrice Evra let Dirk Kuyt in to volley home the winner but we dominated large parts of the match which is scant consolation at the end of it all because we have been knocked out of another cup competition this season and that to at the hands of our rival. Irrational exuberance, football fans and the Mona Lisa!

What do footballers and football fans have in common with the Mona Lisa? Well I wouldn’t be asking the question if the answer wasn’t “something”, would I now?

In his book Irrational Exuberance, the Yale economist Robert Shiller explains how the inherent psychological characteristics of human beings and their application to social situations and, well, life, cause irrational stock market and housing market bubbles, with a bubble being where an asset (such as a share in a company or a house) is valued at an amount that is greater than what it is actually worth (think of the famous Tulip-mania in 17th century Holland, those silly Dutch buggers).

Before heading to Liverpool, United We Stand!

We are the start of the week and the countdown towards the big game against Liverpool on Saturday at Anfield begins. The countdown began for some after the game against Norwich, ignoring the international fixtures of Friday and Tuesday which for some or most is viewed as a deterrence or hindrance and would be more interested in the affairs of their favourite clubs.

As players leave for international duty from the red sides of Manchester and Liverpool, fans from both sides would be praying, wishing and hoping that when the players return from all corners of the world, they would be hale and hearty with only fatigue for the respective managers to deal with. Without doubt, this is the BIGGEST fixture for Liverpool fans as they look to put one over their hated rivals who have been more successful in recent times but that is not to say that Manchester United fans view it with any less significance. We’ve not had great memories of our recent trips to Liverpool. We have been beaten quite comfortably in our last 3 matches there and played poorly. Although we hold the upper hand in recent times of our encounters at Old Trafford, any United fan would want United to beat Liverpool anywhere and everywhere and any time of the year or season. Welcome to the ninth episode of the Red Dead Podcast, the super sexy Manchester United podcast for Truly Reds, brought to you as always by Tom “Darren Fletcher” Addison and Liam “Wrestlemania” Brown.

This week we try to cover United’s last three matches (and decide to skip one), lay into the retarded fans that ruined the Leeds game, get all Sigmund Freud and try to understand the “Cognitive Biases” that make football fans such plebs, and infiltrate fortress RAWK and discuss whether scousers, as some clame, invented the 4-2-3-1 formation.

In what will be a new weekly feature, we also take a trip down memory lane and revisit the youth team legend that was Philip Mulryne, and we announce our new mascot/man-crush for the coming season.

Comments, feedback and questions are greatly appreciated, you can contact us on reddeadpodcast@hotmail.co.uk

Remember, you can also follow us, and Truly Reds, on Twitter: @TrulyReds @TomRDPodcast and @LiamRDPodcast

Sir Alex says Benitez is on the scrapheap

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez may be on the football scrapheap at the moment but is certainly not forgotten by Manchester United icon Sir Alex Ferguson who had no hesitation in continuing his feud with the Spaniard – while defending Jose Mourinho’s confrontational managerial style. Ferguson saw a picture of  Benitez during an interview in an Italian newspaper office and said “He is jobless and he is not my friend.” On the other hand Sir Alex says he is a close pal of Mourinho, tipped to follow him at Old Trafford but whose success has been blighted by disciplinary problems with the football authorities.
