As one of his strongest fans since the time he was at White Hart Lane, it’s not easy to ask the following question but “Does Sir Alex Ferguson still need Dimitar Berbatov at Old Trafford?” Perhaps more to the point “Does the Bulgarian still need Manchester United?” I’m really beginning to wonder! A brilliant player who most managers would give their right arms for, one who could walk into most starting lineups in the Premier League AND Europes leading clubs, a joint Golden Shoe winner just last season, is lately being left to languish on the bench before occasionally being belatedly introduced for a short cameo appearance! WHY? Does it make any logical sense? Perhaps it does!
Months of frustrating uncertainty may finally be coming to an end for Darren Fletcher as he got one step closer to a first team return with a strong 90 minute display in the reserves at Arsenal on Monday night. A Manchester United second string side went down 2-1 to the Gunners but more importantly for Fletcher, he came through the entire match unscathed and looking more like his usual self.
July 14, 2011 – There are more Manchester United stories in the media than any other club – some are worth reading, others are absolute garbage! How can anyone possibly keep up with them all? Truly Reds does it’s best to bring you the latest news but there’s only so much that can be covered on a daily basis. One alternative is to collate the stories which cannot be updated daily so that they can at least be brought to your attention each Thursday of every week
Federico Macheda has vowed to learn from the experience of a disappointing loan spell with Sampdoria as he prepares to rejoin the United squad. The 19 year old striker opted for a temporary return to his native Italy in January instead of going on loan to a top flight English club but the Genoa side’s relegation scrap meant he was used sparingly as the club ultimately failed to avoid the drop from Serie A.
Nobody can doubt that the Manchester United youth ranks are packed with highly talented future stars – let me rephrase that, POTENTIAL future stars, which should guarantee ongoing success for years. Names like Paul Pogba and Ravel Morisson amongst others immediately come to mind while there are a swag of on loan youngsters which include Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Mame Diouf, Federico Macheda, Corry Evans and Richard De Laet. Sir Alex Ferguson left little doubt when he recently made clear that “They will come back into the first team squad and they will get plenty of games next season” when we asked about his plans.
