Chelsea, not City is United’s biggest threat

Amidst all the drama that surrounded the Man United – Chelsea clash at Old Trafford last Sunday, is the least talked about and perhaps most significant outcome. A little reminder that despite Manchester City’s abyss of resources, Chelsea remains the number one threat to United rolling on to a 20th league title come next May.

With Arsenal constantly perfecting the art of self- destruction and hitting new lows of defensive ineptitude, and Liverpool’s revival ride on the Kenny Daglish wave hitting real snags, it is clear that the days of the “top four” are gone never mind what threatened to be the “top six”. It is now the ‘top three’ and will be for a few years to come. It is quite obvious that the Manchester City and Chelsea are the only sides with the squads and the quality to challenge Manchester United for the title this year. Read the full story

60′s Memories – The Law according to Denis

The best goalscorer Manchester United legend Denis Law has ever seen is Jimmy Greaves but when he looks around the Premier League the striker he can relate to best is Wayne Rooney. Law does not watch many games these days but he did travel to Wembley in May to see the Champions League Final. Like everyone else, he was impressed with Barcelona and Lionel Messi but Rooney’s equaliser was like a ray of hope. “Rooney will probably break all goal scoring records if he keeps away from injury” Law says ”he needs to be sharp and fit. That’s the secret. You can’t teach a person to score goals. There are loads of players who get into a position and you know they are not going to score. Then there are others like Michael Owen, Messi and Ronaldo who will score. Rooney’s in that category.”

Red Dead Podcast “Number 8″ – Spanking Arsenal, Hargo’s “Betrayal” and a Silly Liverpool Fan

Welcome to the eigth episode of the Red Dead Podcast, the stupendous Manchester United podcast for Truly Reds, brought to you as always by Tom “Darren Fletcher” Addison and Liam “Wrestlemania” Brown.

This week we analyse United’s cracking performance against l’Arse and bask in the (Red Dead) redemption of our favourite Spanish ‘keeper. We also take a lot at the best of the football from around Europe and, perhaps unfairly, tear into Scottish football a little bit.

We also offer our view on the surprising transfer of Owen Hargreaves to Manchester City, and also rip to shreads an article written by a Liverpool fan, comparing the current United squad with the current Scouse one.

Comments, feedback and questions are greatly appreciated, you can contact us on reddeadpodcast@hotmail.co.uk

Remember, you can also follow us, and Truly Reds, on Twitter: @TrulyReds @TomRDPodcast and @LiamRDPodcast

Due to the international break we won’t be podcasting for another couple of weeks, but don’t worry! I’m sure we’ll have plenty to discuss for next time, including what Liam’s favourite soup is and how much Tom weighs.

Did Nasri become a whore by snubbing United?

Let’s call a spade a spade, maybe all footballers are prostitutes! Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp was prepared to reveal that Samir Nasri could have – and wanted to – join Manchester United but instead went to City for the money! The always blunt Redknapp was quoted on Saturdays SportingReview.com as saying that “Nasri could have gone to United. They wanted him and he wanted to go to Old Trafford. But then City came in and offered him more money so he went to them instead. United are still the biggest team in England. City haven’t got the tradition of United, Arsenal or Liverpool.”

Red Dead Podcast 7 – Spurs, CL Draw, Nasri and Star Wars References

Welcome to the seventh episode of the Red Dead Podcast, the foremost Manchester United podcast for Truly Reds, brought to you as always by Tom “Darren Fletcher” Addison and Liam “Wrestlemania” Brown.

This week we’re discussing the recent United performance against Spurs and the rise of Fergie’s new fledglings, the Champions League draw that has been kind on United and less kind on others, and the transfer of a certain aesthetically impaired Frenchman from smelly old Arsenal to smelly old City.

We also discuss Fergie finally ending his BBC boycott, which was soon followed by a middle finger to the FA, and generally get nostalgic and sentimental about a range of issues.

Comments, feedback and questions are greatly appreciated, you can contact us on reddeadpodcast@hotmail.co.uk (no emails with a subject title, “My Dearest One” please, even my mother doesn’t call me that)

Remember, you can also follow us, and Truly Reds, on Twitter: @TrulyReds @TomRDPodcast and @LiamRDPodcast

Join us again next week where we’ll no doubt be basking in the glory of a comprehensive Victory over l’Arse, and dropping in several more Star Wars references that only a select few nerds will appreciate.

Who United will NOT be meeting in Europe

The European Champions League draw will take place in Monaco within the next 24 hours. UEFA’s rules will see the 32 qualified teams allocated into eight groups of four. Each will contain a top seed, plus one club from the second, third and fourth pots. These are determined by a UEFA ranking system which makes it virtually impossible to work out who exactly Manchester United will be drawn against BUT there are a number of clubs who will definitely be avoided.
