Wolves deservedly ends United unbeaten run

The warning went out before the game – United Beware, and so it proved! Bottom placed Wolverhampton Wanderers came back from a goal down after three minutes to deservedly defeat Manchester United 2-1 at Molineux. It brought United’s impressive 29 match unbeaten run to a grinding halt when it was least expected. Two first half headers gave Wolves the lead and despite enjoying a glut of midfield  possession, United hardly created a decent chance after Nani put them ahead.

United aiming for a new record at Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Manchester United on the back of an away defeat to Bolton on Tuesday when a disastrous Ronald Zubar back pass allowed Daniel Sturridge to steal a 93rd minute winner at the Reebok Stadium. In it’s preview of the game continued That result left Mick McCarthy’s men three points adrift at the bottom of the Barclays Premier League, in the starkest contrast to United who are now five points clear at the right end of the table. Sir Alex Ferguson’s current side have matched the 1999 Treble winners’ run of 29 league games without defeat and will fancy making it 30 having won all six clashes with Wolves since losing 1-0 at Molineux in 2004. Both clubs were then in the same positions they are now – top and bottom.

'Big Dunc' remembered as United visit Wolves

When Manchester United visit Wolves on Saturday it will be one day short of the Munich anniversary and unlike some other cretins around the country, you can be certain fans at Molineux will mark that solemn occasion with the utmost respect. Apart from the tragedy itself, Wolverhampton lost one of their own who is still revered to this very day. Duncan Edwards was born in the town of Dudley just south of the city and had it not been for the persistence of United manager Sir Matt Busby, the youngster could have easily signed for the Wolves. The story goes that Busby arrived at the Edwards family home soon after midnight to make sure that he secures the youngster’s signature
