The Premier League was introduced to English football in 1992-93 with Manchester United claiming the first two titles but then a determined Blackburn Rovers came along in 1994-95 to prevent a hat trick. Together with a moment of madness from cult hero Eric Cantona at Crystal Palace, a third successive title was narrowly prevented by a big spending Rovers side managed by former Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish.

As every football fan must know, there are times when the hardest thing to face is reality. Ewood Park towards the end of last season was one example when the loss of two points looked certain to cost Manchester United a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.

In a season during which a total of 55 Premier, Champions League, FA and Carling Cup matches were played by Manchester United, full back Patrice Evra appeared in no less than 51 of them, a consistency and injury free record which must be the envy of every player in the League. Yet a report has now surfaced indicating that the French international is ready to look for a new challenge in either Spain or Italy.

So here we go again, Real Madrid cannot seem to get enough players away from Old Trafford. Just in the last few years alone Real has head hunted David Beckham in 2003, Ruud van Nistelrooy (2006), Gabriel Heinze (2007) and of course Cristiano Ronaldo last year. It was then made clear recently that super striker Wayne Rooney is their number one target for next season, shown plenty of interest in central defender Nemanja Vidic and now it’s being reported that the Madrid giants are preparing to spark another transfer battle with Manchester United by launching a £20million move for French international Patrice Evra.
