Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to see title contenders kick off their final THREE matches of the season simultaneously rather than just the last week of the season as is currently the case. Not an unreasonable proposal when you hear the Frenchman claim that “There are advantages and disadvantages to kicking off later than the other teams. If you kick off later than your rivals and they have lost, then you are in a more comfortable situation. Psychologically it can give you a lift and it’s true that it can apply for us or Manchester United or Chelsea, but I think it would be better not to give any team this advantage.” While it makes some sense, the proposal is simply not practical.

The warning went out before the game – United Beware, and so it proved! Bottom placed Wolverhampton Wanderers came back from a goal down after three minutes to deservedly defeat Manchester United 2-1 at Molineux. It brought United’s impressive 29 match unbeaten run to a grinding halt when it was least expected. Two first half headers gave Wolves the lead and despite enjoying a glut of midfield possession, United hardly created a decent chance after Nani put them ahead.

The heading on the Liverpool fans blog read - Have you seen this photo? (Another reason why he should be sacked ASAP). Was it Barack Obama having a beer with Osama bin Laden? Maybe the Glasgow Rangers chairman inviting the Pope for dinner or possibly the Queen addressing an IRA meeting? Oh no, it was far more earth shattering than that! Believe it or not, there was Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson for all the world to see, giving New Year greetings to his old mate Sir Alex Ferguson at the DW Stadium on Sunday while watching Wigan’s clash with Newcastle!

Despite being the most decorated manager in English football history, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says that even he is not immune from the possibility of losing his job. Having just turned 69 on New Years eve and completed 24 years at Old Trafford, Ferguson believes that in this day and age when club owners and fans demand constant success, managers can never afford to relax, citing the recent sackings of Sam Allardyce at Blackburn and Newcastle’s Chris Hughton as examples.

The Premier League was introduced to English football in 1992-93 with Manchester United claiming the first two titles but then a determined Blackburn Rovers came along in 1994-95 to prevent a hat trick. Together with a moment of madness from cult hero Eric Cantona at Crystal Palace, a third successive title was narrowly prevented by a big spending Rovers side managed by former Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish.
