Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini seems to go out of his way to get on the wrong side of people. Maybe it’s the pressure that comes with such high expectations at his club but he seems to be getting a reputation for creating needless confrontations. He has only been at Eastlands for ten months yet in that time Mancini has had run ins with Robinho, Craig Bellamy, Stephen Ireland, Emmanuel Adebayor, Shay Given and what he himself describes as a “ballsy” half time dressing room argument with his captain Carlos Tevez just last week.

Is there a decent keeper anywhere who has not been linked with Manchester United in the last few months? That’s obviously a gross exaggeration but there are times when it appears that way. There were plenty of headlines just a couple of weeks ago when manager Sir Alex Ferguson decided to give the Carling Cup tie against Scunthorpe a miss, preferring instead to visit Spain with goalkeeper coach Eric Steele instead to scout Athletico Madrid’s David De Gea. That interest now appears to have cooled off with attention turning to Denmark international Anders Lindegaard instead.

Manchester United is without doubt the biggest football name in England while Manchester City is hell bent on taking over that mantle.
Manchester City assistant manager Brian Kidd is a former United player and coach but that has not stopped him from sending out a warning to his old boss Sir Alex Ferguson that “We’re coming to get you”. The former Old Trafford legend is also the first to admit however that until City win some sort of trophy which they have failed to do since lifting the League Cup way back in 1976, there is still a long way to go before they have United running scared. From the perspective of committed Manchester United fans, that challenge should be welcomed with open arms.

The obsession Manchester City has with becoming a bigger club than United has produced a number of bizarre attempts in the last couple of years. Putting up giant billboards in the City centre, paying record transfer fees for players who can barely last 12 months at Eastlands and having Chief Executives making boastful claims in New York City bars all failed to make an impression so now they're trying the most childish one of all. It almost seems as if City is trying to convince itself that it really is a big club.
