In all the media gossip over possible transfer deals that Manchester United may or may not make during the summer, a comment made by Sir Alex Ferguson during the recent pre season tour of North America was almost totally overlooked. Yet it goes a long way towards explaining the reason why the only ones completed so far were those of two youngsters who have barely hit their twenties. Chris Smalling will not be 21 until November while Javier Hernandez only turned 22 in June.

Watching former Manchester United starlets Jonathan Greening and Erik Nevland bravely battling away for Fulham in a vain attempt to try and salvage something for their club last weekend one could not help but wonder how often they must have thought of what might have been when looking back on their careers.
The 31 year old Greening made 14 senior appearances in midfield during his 3 years at Old Trafford between 1998 and 2001 before going on to build a decent career for himself at Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion then settling at Fulham last year. Read the full story

Ho Hum, another season, another trophy! Manchester United fans may well get that feeling at times. No, the Carling Cup is not the most glamorous competition in world football but hey, a trophy is still a trophy especially when it’s another step in the race to overtake fierce rivals Liverpool as the most decorated club in English football.
Think about it, a total of 26 honours collected in the 24 years since Sir Alex Ferguson walked through the Old Trafford gates in November 1986. That’s half of all the trophies won by the club since joining the Football League! So the question is when will enough be enough? When will the hunger for success come to an end?

Back home?
Stoke City promising defender, Ryan Shawcross, could be in his way out of Britannia Stadium where he is enjoying first team football.
Shawcross, 21 years old, began his career with Manchester United academy. He couldn’t break into first team so that he was sent on loan to Royal Antwerp FC and Stoke City.
Ryan says today that he knows nothing about the offers from Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton. Read the full story
