When Man United nailed seven past the Hammers


If previous meetings between Manchester United and West Ham are any indication, there should be plenty of goals put away on Saturday. The two clubs have often turned on the entertainment with scorelines of 5-3 at Upton Park and 6-0 at Old Trafford but the 7-1 on the first April Fools day of the ‘noughties’ stands out as the biggest defeat the Hammers ever suffered at the hands of United. One of the highlights was Paul Scholes’ first hat trick for the club but a young Rio Ferdinand lining up in the West Ham defence must have wondered what hit him. Perhaps the biggest sympathy must go to Hammers goalkeeper Craig Forrest who was on the receiving end of the heaviest Premiership defeat in history when Ipswich went down 9-0 to United five years earlier.

Chicharito vs Rooney at Wembley in warmup


Most Manchester United fans had never heard of Mexico striker Javier Hernandez just a month ago let alone know anything about the 22 year old. It was only after his club Chivas de Guadalajara agreed to an offer from Sir Alex Ferguson which will take the man known as ‘Chicharito’ to Old Trafford on July 1 that they began to discover what makes him tick Those fans will now have their first opportunity of catching a glimpse of him on Monday night when Mexico plays against England in a Wembley World Cup warm up.

Sky's the limit for three Manchester Utd youngsters


Legend and club reserve team coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains confident Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf have the quality to thrive at the club despite a season in which all have succumbed to injuries. Macheda was expected to take a big step in his Old Trafford career this season after his exploits during his Premier League campaign last year, but a four month absence with a groin injury put paid to the youngsters’ progress. He recently made a scoring return to Uniteds first team with a consolation goal against Chelsea but like his young teammates Welbeck and Diouf, 2010 has been a frustrating year.
