Book Review – Buchans Manchester United 1951-73


Charles Buchan’s Football Monthly was Britain’s first ever football ‘glossy’. Packed with hand tinted photographs and celebrity articles, its arrival on the bookstands in September 1951 brought colour and glamour to the nation’s football hungry public after years of wartime deprivation and austerity. At its peak in the late 1960s the magazine was selling 254,000 copies. Charles Buchan’s Manchester United Gift Book: Selections from Football Monthly 1951-73 is a 144 page hardback published by Malavan Media in October 2007 which is full of wonderful nostalgia for anyone around my age.

Don’t be surprised to see the Glazers cut and run


It may only be a gut feeling but one cannot help but sense that the hostility of Manchester United fans towards the clubs American owners is beginning to show early signs that it’s starting to turn. A protest organised against the Glazers on Sunday is reported to have attracted around 3000 people, a spit in the ocean when compared to the 75,000 who attended the Spurs game twenty four hours earlier It raises the question as to whether the Glazer family has embarked on a calculated public relations charm offensive to win over their critics.

Remembering George Best 22/5/1946 – 25/11/2005


Manchester United legend George Best would have turned 64 on Saturday and to mark the occasion, teenagers from the estate where he grew up will take on a team from the Manchester United Foundation in a memorial match.The game is being played at Tillysburn Park is the second leg of the tournament to raise funds for the George Best Foundation.
