Welcome to the ninth episode of the Red Dead Podcast, the super sexy Manchester United podcast for Truly Reds, brought to you as always by Tom “Darren Fletcher” Addison and Liam “Wrestlemania” Brown.

This week we try to cover United’s last three matches (and decide to skip one), lay into the retarded fans that ruined the Leeds game, get all Sigmund Freud and try to understand the “Cognitive Biases” that make football fans such plebs, and infiltrate fortress RAWK and discuss whether scousers, as some clame, invented the 4-2-3-1 formation.

In what will be a new weekly feature, we also take a trip down memory lane and revisit the youth team legend that was Philip Mulryne, and we announce our new mascot/man-crush for the coming season.

Comments, feedback and questions are greatly appreciated, you can contact us on reddeadpodcast@hotmail.co.uk

Remember, you can also follow us, and Truly Reds, on Twitter: @TrulyReds @TomRDPodcast and @LiamRDPodcast

FLASHBACK: Garry Birtles nearly died for a goal

In a revealing confession to The Telegraph this week former Manchester United record signing Garry Birtles recalled the torment he went through over thirty years ago when he could not buy a goal for love nor money during his first eleven month period at Old Trafford. He explains what he thinks Chelsea £50m signing Fernando Torres must be going through as he desperately searches for that breakthrough at his new club. It’s an interesting tale which will also bring many memories to older United fans as they remember the frustrating struggle Birtles went through all those years ago.

City semi final derby is NOT the end of the journey

There’s a dangerous tendency amongst football fans – of every club, to put the cart before the horse and the Manchester United ones are no different. If it’s been heard once it’s been heard a thousand times. “The FA Cup Semi Final derby on Saturday is the Final with the winner certain to lift the Cup at the end of May” REALLY? Is that not being a little presumptuous? Cup Finals have been riddled with underdogs coming out on top for over a century. Remember Sunderland beating Leeds United, Wimbledon doing the same against Liverpool and indeed, Southampton denying Manchester United? Every one of those winners were complete outsiders before causing their boilovers.

United stay on top as they brush Stoke aside

How does he do it? Whether it’s with his face, the back of his head or the stunning way Chicharito took his goal against Stoke City, he always seems to improvise a way to find the net! It’s pure instinct, a thing that some players are born with and cannot be coached. Despite scoring their first goal at Old Trafford since 1980, the visitors still went back home empty handed while United are assured of staying on top of the table irrespective of the outcome of the Arsenal v Manchester City clash at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
