He’s big, he’s mean, he’s a destruction machine or as the Old Trafford chant goes “He comes from Serbia, he’ll F***in murder ya”. Manchester United tough as teak central defender Nemanja Vidic is now warning all the rival title pretenders that United can regain the Premiership without even hitting top form. Despite the tight struggle at The Hawthorns on New Year’s Day, the team captain said that “It was a very hard game for us at West Brom and we got a bit lucky. Sometimes you have the luck, sometimes you don’t.”

To say that apart from his Manchester United fans, veteran Gary Neville is not the best loved footballer in England will be a gross understatement. Despite that, he will go down in history as an Old Trafford legend having become United’s 5th highest in the club’s all time appearance list behind Paul Scholes, Bill Foulkes, Bobby Charlton and Ryan Giggs when he made his 600th United appearance at Stoke.

At last, Manchester United has got the monkey off its back. Match winning leads were thrown away five times this season and for a few minutes it looked as if it was about to happen again at Stoke City. But Mexican striker Javier Hernandez stepped up to regain the lead four minutes from time and give United their first away win to set the seal on a whirlwind few days. Hernandez had earlier produced a moment of magic in the 27th minute with an amazing finish with the back of his head, only for Tuncay Sanli to hit a stunning equaliser nine minutes from time to earn Stoke it’s first Premier League goal against United in five attempts.

So the Sunderland post mortem continues. Did United take a valuable point from a tough opponent? Did two anticipated points go begging from the fourth successive Premier League away draw? The debate continues and even those involved cannot agree. Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar laments the lost points saying “We can be happy that we had a clean sheet, the second in a row after Valencia on Wednesday but I think it was two dropped points because we dropped too many already in away games.”

A lack of fluency in the English language by Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni and in Italian by Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson could have had dire consequences for the international future of the 22 year old. Reports over the weekend claimed the veteran manager believes that Gibson might have to quit Old Trafford to become a regular in his side. The suggestions earned an angry rebuke from Gibson with the midfielder unhappy that Trapattoni was advising him to leave United, bluntly stating the Italian ‘must have been having a laugh’.
