A Paul Scholes header in the third minute of stoppage time handed Manchester United a precious 1-0 victory over fierce rivals Manchester City at Eastlands. The veteran midfielder marked the signing of his one year contract extension with the 149th goal of his glittering United career to keep the title race well and truly alive.
At the end of 12 turbulent days which have almost certainly destroyed a season that had unexpectedly produced so much, everyone at Manchester United must now pick themselves up, see out a season in which for all its promise will most likely not produce anything more substantial than the often maligned Carling Cup, then start planning for a new challenge come next August.
Something is definitely wrong here! It was never supposed to be like this! The Premier League was going to be different this season, Manchester United were going to be replaced by new Champions. At least those were the firm predictions by the majority of football “experts” back in August!
Liverpool will go one step further after finishing second last May, their time is here at last. Arsene Wengers youngsters have come of age and are ready to go all the way while Italian supremo Carlo Ancelotti is what Chelsea needed to take the title back to Stamford Bridge.
