It's almost pointless to reopen the debate as to the value Dimitar Berbatov has given Manchester United since his £31 transfer from Tottenham Hotspur because everything points to his career at Old Trafford coming to an end in the summer. Looking at some statistics from this season however may give some of his critics a different perspective when compared to his former team mate Carlos Tevez at Manchester City

There have been strong suspicions expressed in many quarters that former Manchester City board member and now chairman of the FA David Bernstein, was the man who helped engineer the two match suspension handed out to Wayne Rooney which will keep him out of the FA Cup semi final against Bernstein's old club.
Debate about the future of Manchester United veteran Gary Neville continues as he struggles to make a decision about his future. Since announcing that he has played his last game for United, Neville has been weighing up the options of going into a television commentary career or to remain at Old Trafford in a coaching capacity. If any doubts exist as to the value a player with his experience can give to the club, it must have been put to bed after young defender Chris Smalling’s outstanding performance in his initial Manchester derby on Saturday.

We may not like it but we have to lump it! Footballers and their agents now hold all the cards and there's absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. Whether we're talking about world giants or smaller clubs, they are openly being blackmailed by their star players who are influenced by their greedy agents. The plain truth is that most footballers - and I emphasise MOST rather than ALL, do not have the brains to think for themselves, relying on self serving, money grabbing car salesman type opportunists to be in control of their careers.

The festive season is only a few days away so goodwill to all is normally the name of the game but sadly that’s not always the case. There can be little doubt that football should only be about ability, skill and talent but for whatever reason, there are some who take great pleasure in having a laugh at what are perceived to be the ugliest footballers in the Premier League. Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney – otherwise known as ‘Shrek’ by many rival fans, and Gary Neville are frequent candidates for topping the list but are they?

Former problem child Carlos Tevez is thankfully no longer a headache for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is instead faced with the challenge of a multi million pound poker game being played by club Chief Executive Garry Cook, Football Administrator Brian Marwood, Tevez himself and his agent Kia Joorabchian. The row over Tevez's future deepened further on Monday with City sources indicating that the club will sue if he walks away or pursue him through the courts for breach of contract if he simply decides not to play.

Carlos Tevez wears one at Manchester City as does Samir Nasri at Arsenal and many other Premier League players. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson does not like them and Rio Ferdinand has said that you won't catch anyone at United wearing one. Gloves are fine but snoods are certainly not. As a self confessed old fart who is nostalgic for the old days of football, I must nevertheless ask this simple question. What is so wrong with neck warmers?

It’s difficult not to be cynical in this day and age when every media outlet is trying to outdo its rivals with a sensational story. The Manchester United Evening News can usually be relied upon to present rational, believable news but even I find the revelation that Sir Alex Ferguson will be handed “his biggest ever transfer war chest, with more than £100m to spend in January and at the end of the season” difficult to swallow. Sorry, I simply cannot buy it. If, and it’s a mighty big IF, there’s any truth in it, the Glazers must be looking at rewarding Ferguson with an unexpected windfall for 25 years of service before he walks off into the sunset at the end of next season! Does anyone find the following even remotely believable?
