Rise of the Dead…Nearly for those in the Blue half

The final whistle is blown at the Etihad Stadium and it is safe and fair to say that Manchester United fans the world over breathed a huge collective sigh of relief. Pre kickoff, we had the shock news of Paul Scholes coming out of retirement to contend with. One way or another, United fans would in general be left wondering on why the sudden change of heart from the normally resolute Englishman and how will the quiet maestro do on his return which depended on him coming on in the game as he was named on the bench. Like many, I was shocked at his change in heart but certainly didn’t look at it as a step forward rather I looked at it as a step backward maybe a step in desperation. Read the full story

Bad Start To The New Year!

First game in the new year and we commenced it with where we left off in 2011, with a defeat but the defeat this time, our third in the league already this season was a resounding one. The defeat was as resounding and as one-sided as the trashing we got in St. James’ Park in 1996. The score-line reflected it to an extent. There was much talk pre-game about Manchester United responding from the disappointing defeat we suffered at home in our last fixture of 2011 at the hands of Blackburn Rovers and coming out fighting like wounded tigers but instead, we responded meekly like tame cats. Do we need to go into the January transfer market?

After witnessing Manchester United defeat against Blackburn Rovers for our New Year’s Eve match, I would touch on another significant matter to the football world, the opening of the transfer window. I have heard a lot of United fans voice out in blogs, newspapers and talk shows on the need for United to sign someone in January and I have been asked on my view on this topic a few times. My opinion on this matter is that I don’t believe Sir Alex Ferguson will sign anyone in January. If he does, I will be genuinely surprised now whether the surprise, is positive or negative, only time will tell. Read the full story

Into the Unknown sea of the Europa League!

Two exits within the space of a week. That is the reality of the season so far for Manchester United; one that started so brightly with good, positive football that had us all purring and brimming with confidence and enthusiasm for the season ahead as we got goals after goals. Instead, we now stare at the unknown. The unknown comes in the shape of the Europa League, a competition we have not won in whatever guise it has been in and a competition we had not planned to play in. However, that is the reality that faces everyone at Manchester United; owners, manager, players and fans when we think of midweek European action for the rest of the season. Read the full story

Where have all the United lads disappear to?

The Carrington training complex was eerily quiet this week as players made a mass exodus to link up with their national teams all over Europe. Most are helping their countries in the efforts to qualify for Euro 2012, while others had to travel further afield. It’s a price that has to be paid when the squad contains so many internationals from all over the world. For the sake of anyone wondering what destinations the various Manchester United lads have been heading for, here’s a complete list of their schedules.

Will Kiko be going home? “No, I don’t think so”

Despite intense attempts from current Serie A leaders Lazio and other Italian club giants  to lure Federico Macheda back to his Roman home, the 19 year old striker has made it clear that he has no plans to go anywhere. Having already made a handful of first team appearances for Manchester United this term, he believes he is an important part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans and remains determined to make his mark in the Premier League.
