A good week has just got better for Manchester United young Italian striker Federico Macheda after netting twice in an Under 21 friendly 2-1 defeat of Turkey on Wednesday. Kiko had sparked that late fight back by United at Villa Park on the weekend and believes that there are more from where those goals came from pledging to follow his brace with a hat trick – then slammed former Italy Under-21 Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi. “I can give more” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport “If I scored two this time, then for the next game I will get three.”

Manchester United’s Champions League victory in Bursa has come at a cost after Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed both Nani and Darren Fletcher have sustained injuries. Nani has been in wonderful form this season but only lasted half an hour before sustaining a groin injury while Fletcher was substituted in the second half with an ankle problem. Ferguson said both players are likely to miss the test against Wolves on Saturday.

Mission accomplished – almost. The comfortable 3-0 defeat of Bursaspor in Turkey virtually guaranteed Manchester United of progressing to the knock out stages of the Champions League with two matches to spare. There were many positive aspects in a good second half display from a severely weakened side with Gabriel Obertan and Bebe’s first European goals certain to boost the youngsters’ confidence. Another was the ability of the defence to maintain a clean sheet for the fourth successive Group C match.

Just when Manchester United fans were fully expecting reinforcements to come into Old Trafford in January, boss Sir Alex Ferguson insisted yesterday that there was no need to bring any new players over the winter. “No, definitely not” he said emphatically. With the Glazer family reported to have made a large transfer kitty available for Sit Alex to spend as he sees fit after the Wayne Rooney saga was resolved, hopes were high that at least one big signing will be made during the winter transfer window but the manager has decided otherwise.
