Forlan will never forget those two strikes at Anfield


Ever since former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan was voted Golden Ball winner for best player at the 2010 World Cup there have been calls from many quarters for Sir Alex Ferguson to bring the Uruguay hit man back to Old Trafford. But the odds of it ever happening can only be described as highly remote at best. Ferguson simply does not sign players of his age unless he’s faced with exceptionally dire circumstances. Forlan nevertheless has fond memories of his time at Old Trafford – as manutd.com discovered when it had a chat with him prior to United’s recent 1-0 defeat of Valencia.

Luis Suarez can be a sensation at Old Trafford


Of all the players linked to a possible Manchester United move this summer only one still has a chance of adding a World Cup winning medal to his collection. What’s more, he is the sole reason why Uruguay will be facing Holland in next week’s semi final. And 23 year old Luis Suarez himself is adamant that only United and Barcelona could tempt him to quit Ajax Amsterdam.

Forlan goes from flop to one of the world’s best


The many thousands of Manchester United fans who cannot wait to see the back of  a Bulgarian they nicknamed ‘Berbaflop’ will be well advised to remember the Uruguay hitman who was dubbed Diego ‘Forlorn’ during his two and a half years at Old Trafford. Perhaps his 17 goals in a total of 98 appearances warranted his nickname at the time but Forlan has certainly proven his ability to find the net in the five years since.

Who can ever forget Tommy Docherty at United?


Having been fortunate enough to become attracted to the magic of  Manchester United just prior to going into my teens a couple of years before Munich, I have lived through the eras of every Old Trafford manager since then, from the great Sir Matt Busby to the incredible success of Sir Alex Ferguson. Those two legends have left their own legacy to both the club and to English football itself which is unlikely to ever be matched.

There was however, one other manager in between who has left an immense impression which still remains today, even after more than 30 years. Despite his many shortcomings, Tommy Docherty was that man, a name which may not mean much to many of today’s younger generation of fans but who still evokes memories of those unpredictable days of the seventies.
