You really have to wonder what goes through the minds of presumably well paid journalists from major national newspapers when they come up with the sort of rubbish they so often do. A report appearing in the Daily Mirror suggests that “While we’re looking for scapegoats on whom to apportion blame for England’s early World Cup exit, let’s not forget the part Sir Alex Ferguson played in our South Africa debacle.”

Michael Owen is confident he will be ready to play a full part in Manchester United’s pre season plans. The experienced striker has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury in the Carling Cup final on 28th February. The next day it was announced that he was to have surgery on the damaged area but he expects to be back in time for the start of the season.

Had England manager Fabio Capello acted a few weeks earlier, Manchester United veteran midfielder Paul Scholes would now be just a few days away from a sensational comeback to the international stage. That opportunity was only lost because of Capellos hesitation, leaving England without his vast experience which could be so sorely missed in South Africa.
