Transfer stories are a dime a dozen. Very few have genuine substance, we always take them with a huge amount of cynicism yet they cannot be totally ignored in case there’s the slightest grain of truth in them. It begs the question of whether he was being genuine or if was he just giving a ‘come on’ from his agent in a desperate attempt to attract an offer from manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson pulled off one of the shock transfer deals of the season in July last year when he convinced 30 year old former England international Michael Owen to sign for him on a free transfer. The canny Scot  is now reported to be poised for an encore by offering Chelsea play maker Joe Cole a contract to continue his career at Old Trafford.

The rumours and gossip about which players are going to be coming into Old Trafford this summer continues unabated with the latest one being that Ajax’s star striker Luis Suarez only wants to move to Manchester United if he leaves the Amsterdam club. The 23 year old Uruguayan has been a prolific goalscorer since joining Ajax in 2007 scoring a remarkable 41 times in 42 appearances this season and 27 in the previous campaign.
