Same old as United beat City once again

What a way to kick off a new campaign? A boring two month off season – with no real football except a non event like the Womens World Cup, and nothing more than sheer repetitive transfer speculation by a news hungry media! REAL action is now back and the two Manchester rivals provided loads of it at Wembley Stadium as United came back from trailing by two first half goals to lift the annual Community Shield with an injury time Nani winner and leave City crying in their barrels of oil yet again! This is what football’s all about, if it was a taste of things to come, BRING IT ON!

A reality Manchester United rivals must face

Perception seems to be far more important than reality these days – especially in football! Despite bringing home a fourth title in the last five years and reaching a third Champions League final in the last four, many critics, including some of Manchester Uniteds own fans, have consistently derided the side as being the worst Sir Alex Ferguson team to be crowned Premier League Champions. United unable to deny a brilliant Barcelona

It cannot possibly be denied! Barcelona has proved once again that they are simply the best club side in the world. The look on Sir Alex Fergusons face at the trophy presentation after the game said it all after the Catalans clinically brushed Manchester United aside with an emphatic 3-1 victory at Wembley. He knew, as we all did, that his team was beaten by a better side. The biggest compliment I can possibly pay Barca is that as a dedicated, passionate United fan, I am obviously disappointed by such a resounding defeat but far from devastated. Tribute must simply be paid to a wonderful Barcelona side – and what can any more be said about Lionel Messi?

A United Wembley destiny – simply BELIEVE

The old saying says that  ’A thousand people, a thousand opinions’ applies to football more than anything. Some are more objective than others so it does no harm to at least listen to what the ‘experts’ have to say. Whether they count for anything at the end of the day is a completely different question but they’re all part of the tension built anticipation which forms the climax for what may turn out to be an unforgettable Manchester United season.

Sir Bobby remembers ’68 – and his thoughts on ’11

Some are unkind enough to refer to it as the Daily Fail – sorry, I cannot agree! Not when The Daily Mail comes up with the sort of interview that Sir Bobby Charlton gave to his friend of 40 years Jeff Powell. There were no leading questions, no double edged attempts to uncover some sort of sensational story which had been laying dormant during Charltons’ decades at Old Trafford. Instead, Powell simply allowed Sir Bobby to recollect his memories of the 1968 European Cup defeat of  Benfica in 1968 and give his thoughts on Saturday’s Final against Barcelona. It makes for a fascinating story which should be read by United – and indeed, all football fans.
