John Aston: The United unsung hero of 1968

Every Manchester United man was a hero in that unforgettable 1968 European Cup Final but a young John Aston was the most unlikely one. FLASHBACK 1999: When Toon was a Treble victim

Manchester United travel to Newcastle just three days after hopes of another treble was snuffed out at Wembley but when the ‘impossible dream’ was achieved in 1999, it was the same Toon who provided one of the last hurdles for United. As Mark Bradley from PA Sport reported at the time “Their night of destiny now awaits them in the Nou Camp but for the time being United can celebrate their third Double of the 1990s”
