It’s that time of the year again when the diaries come out and the fixture list is closely scrutinized so that the year ahead can be carefully planned around the new season. As usual, some matches are bigger than others – on paper at least, so how about the following Manchester United fixtures to start with? The first crunch match comes at Old Trafford on 18 September followed by the visit of Tottenham on October 30. The first derby is at Eastlands on November 10 then Arsenal at home on December 11 quickly followed by a trip to Stamford Bridge a week later.

Talk of revenge filled the air when fate decided that Germany’s Bayern Munich and Manchester United should meet in a blockbuster quarter final during this weeks European Champions League draw. The two glamour clubs had produced that dramatic 1999 Nou Camp final where United completed a historic treble in the dying seconds of a game which appeared certain to reward Bayerns almost entire 90 minutes of dominance with a deserved 1-0 victory until football proved that miracles can and do happen!

“Destiny” is such an abused word in everyday football language! Everything and everyone seems to be “destined” for something or other. “We were always destined to win this or that game” or “The boy was destined for greatness” How often have you heard the word used, many times without any real justification?
Well, if destiny was ever going to be met it was always going to be at Molineux on Saturday evening. There was Manchester United, lacking its usual firepower with strikers Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen both out with injuries, facing a desperate Wolves struggling against relegation when up popped 35 year old Paul Scholes sitting on 99 Premier League goals to strike home the winner and carry the Reds to the top of the table.

Manchester United take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this Sunday at Molineux Stadium with the full expectations of supporters of the Red Devils gaining all three points.
The Wolves manager, Mick McCarthy earlier this season at Old Trafford selected a ‘weaker’ starting eleven, for which Wolves were given a £25,000 suspended fine, so one wouldn’t expect Wolves to replicate their decision, as they look to give United a much harder game at their own patch.
