Watching the action in South Africa from his holiday base in the south of France, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is not at all impressed with what he has seen so far. “It’s been a disappointing World Cup but I had a feeling it would be” he told a New York radio station “I have been disappointed with the quality levels I have to say. I haven’t been impressed at all.”

When South Korea captain Ji-Sung Park slotted the ball home to ensure that all three points were secured for his country in their opening Group B World Cup match against Greece, he took a major step in his determined vow to lead the Koreans into the next stage of the tournament. The man often rated as the best left full back in the world Patrice Evra will be the new France captain with Thierry Henry accepting a place on the substitutes bench for the World Cup campaign. Evra captained his country for the first time in the recent 2-1 defeat of  Costa Rica in a warm up game. Former skipper Henry has been out of the side since leading France in that controversial play off win over Republic of Ireland.
