It has now been been 13 years since Eric Cantona played his last Premier League game for Manchester United yet the mere mention of his name still sends shivers down the spine of fans who were fortunate enough to experience his five seasons at Old Trafford. Thousands of younger fans will barely remember those halcyon days except for some images on old VHS tapes yet the stories they heard still has them in awe of the great Frenchman.

Watching the action in South Africa from his holiday base in the south of France, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is not at all impressed with what he has seen so far. “It’s been a disappointing World Cup but I had a feeling it would be” he told a New York radio station “I have been disappointed with the quality levels I have to say. I haven’t been impressed at all.”

When South Korea captain Ji-Sung Park slotted the ball home to ensure that all three points were secured for his country in their opening Group B World Cup match against Greece, he took a major step in his determined vow to lead the Koreans into the next stage of the tournament. It will only be the second time in their history that the Asian powerhouse will get into the last 16 and that was when they were co-hosts with neighbours Japan back in 2002.

Within the large squad that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has at his disposal there are a core group of players who are crucial in his attempt to reclaim the Premier League title from Chelsea. He would hate to lose any of them but if the many reports being circulated prove to be correct, Ferguson may have to resign himself to the fact that key central defender Nemanja Vidic will not be at Old Trafford next season.

The man often rated as the best left full back in the world Patrice Evra will be the new France captain with Thierry Henry accepting a place on the substitutes bench for the World Cup campaign. Evra captained his country for the first time in the recent 2-1 defeat of Costa Rica in a warm up game. Former skipper Henry has been out of the side since leading France in that controversial play off win over Republic of Ireland.
